Grow Share

The Grow Share Collective is a community growing initiative based at Pondfield.

We are a member-led organisation, volunteering our time each week to tend to the garden.

About the collective

We are inspired by the CSA model, but instead of members paying for produce, we give our time and learn to grow it ourselves.

Each week we distribute harvests amongst the group, donating excess to the wider community wherever possible.

We make our decisions as a collective, meaning that everyone gets a chance to decide what we grow and how we grow it.

We are inspired by peer-to-peer learning and non-hierarchical structures. We have varied levels of knowledge and experience, so we share skills as much as we share time and food.

We aim to foster a sense of empowerment and reciprocity with the land, by increasing the whole group's knowledge of how to grow food ecologically.

We believe in safe and enjoyable land access for all - particularly for those who may not typically feel welcome in rural spaces.

Through communal, agroecological growing practices, we explore how engaging with food and land is integral to systemic change.

Join the collective

There are two ways to join us in the garden: as a committed member, or as a more casual volunteer. Sign-up via email is essential and a full induction will be provided on your first day (more information below).

A member of the Grow Share Collective takes on a bit more responsibility, but receives a lot more reward. It means getting to participate in the full experience of planning and caring for our garden, always in community and collaboration. It means you also receive your share of the harvest.

We welcome ALL levels of gardening and growing experience total beginners included and encouraged. As are the pros!

No members are paid to do any land work - so this only works if we all show up. We need people who can commit to coming regularly on Fridays year-round, but particularly throughout the growing season (Spring through to Autumn 2026).

We especially want to hear from you if you find rural spaces difficult to access or unwelcoming
- many of us have various marginalised identities. We want this to be a space for all.

FAQs

  • We meet every Friday afternoon from 1-5pm, though in the hotter months, sometimes we adjust this to be on the land in the earlier, cooler hours of the day.

  • No! We all take breaks and holidays and we understand that things come up. If you want to be a member, we just ask that you make a regular and consistent commitment, but this is flexible.

  • Grow Share values being an inclusive space. We don't work for profit, so we can prioritise community over productivity. Several of us are neurodivergent, with chronic health conditions or disabilities, so you won’t be alone.

However, it is important to note that Pondfields is not wheelchair accessible and the garden is on uneven, sloped ground, so if you have significant mobility issues, this may be difficult for you.

If you have accessibility needs that you'd like to chat about, please reach out via email. We will do whatever we can to accommodate you.

  • Absolutely! When you apply to join us, we send you our sign-up form, where you can let us know your experience level and if there’s anything in particular you’d like to learn. We share our skills and knowledge as a collective, it’s at the core of how we work.

  • We provide tools and gloves, but if you have your own and you’d like to bring them, then that is super helpful.

  • We distribute the harvest amongst ourselves each week, so the more you show up, the more you shall receive! We don’t pay - we give our time and labour in exchange for the harvest. Any surplus we have, we like to donate to the wider community.

  • We have some dogs on site already, so unfortunately we cannot accept any more. This does mean that you need to be comfortable around a small number of dogs.

Kids are very welcome, but we do not facilitate any child-specific activities, so adults need to be fully responsible for their children. Just let us know in your email if you would like to bring kids!
